The river Tista is one of the most important rivers in North-East India. It is said to be the Life-line of the state Sikkim and flows through another state West Bengal and joins river Bhahmaputra in Bangladesh as a tributary. It covers a total length of 309km and drains almost 13000 square km.
The irrigation projects like Tista Barrage are contributing in reduced water flow in the river leaving the river bed dry for most of the months and affecting a vast ecosystem which is fed by the river water.
