Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken a year ago while I was in a morning nature photography session in one of the lovely forests located in Buces-Vulcan,Hunedoara,Romania.

Time

This amazing atmosphere was happening somewhere around 10AM , just about when the sun was rising over the hills and was finally getting a view of the woods.

Lighting

Well, to begin with , I was in a walking on a hill with two of my photography colleagues , taking pics to the landscape around. I was closer to the forest side and at some pioint I started to see some sun rays coming out of the woods. As I am a curios person, I headed into the heart of it without hessitation. Just 10 steps inside were enough, and I stopped and I just stared with excitement. I immediatly shouted for my friends to come in as I already was looking for a good angle to capture this outstanding moment of the light "playing" through the trees. The fact that the time was still in the morning, there was still a bit of a fog and as a result it kind of made the rays to look even better.

Equipment

I shoot this photo with my first DSRL camera , a Nikon D3100 , with its basic lens kit (18-55mm VR ). At that time I didn't had a polarization filtre and I just used an UV one. I think that's pretty much of my available equipment on that day.

Inspiration

Would you not take a picture of this if it will appear right in front of you ? As I told you before, I was simply amazed . Also , I have to mention that I have never saw a moment like this before and I acted without thinking too much about anything else but how to capture what my eyes just witnessed.

Editing

We all know that our camera cannot capture what the human eye sees. As I did took the photo in RAW format , I made the basic adjustments of the contrast, lights , shadows , color balance ,saturation .

In my camera bag

To begin with, I always have my Nikon D3100 with the 18-55mm lens (it goes by Rocky as well haha). I also pack up the 55-200mm lens which I had bought them last November . There comes the accesories that I should never forget about So I have an UV filter and a circular polarization filter , the lens-hood which goes for the 55-200mm ,the tripod, some dry and wet wipes and the second SDcard .

Feedback

Well, the tripod could have become in handy and it might help you along the way (sadly I forget it home that morning, but I'm lucky that I'm not shaky haha) . I know that sometimes it is an inconvenient and you are tired of carrying it but as I like to say "no pain ,no gain " . When you are going to go out with your camera at this time in the morning, especially in the woods where the light is not so powerful you might have to high up the ISO which will quite make your photo noisy ( this is in case you don't have a larger diaphragm like 2.8 or something like that ) . Always you must to get lost in the magic of what you see and try to express what you feel through your photo . Try several angles , look outside the viewfinder to see the more of the beauty around so you can build up the entire composition . Or better said, fFOLLOW THE LIGHT , it will get your picture alive in a minute !
