Location
This image was taken around the famous Godafoss waterfall in Northern Iceland.Time
It was a cloudy day and I wasn't able to capture any good lighting around sunrise time, I spent quite some time walking around Godafoss during the day and found this spot close to the waterfall so I could take a low angle shot with nice details of the rock and vegetation in the water, this image was captured around noon when the bottom of this small valley was better lighted.Lighting
The cloudiness of the day helped to reduce the overall contrast of the scene, no direct sunlight hitting the water also helped to reduce image flare.Equipment
A Nikon D3 paired up with a Nikon 16-35mm f4 lens was used for capturing this image, A B+W ND6 neutral density filter was used to slow down the shutter speed, a Manfrotto tripod and ball head set was used for stabilization.Inspiration
This has been one of my favorite images. I did the shot when there was a tourist standing by the waterfall observing its beauty, the inclusion of the person helps to show the scale and the sheer size of this famous landmark.Editing
The contrast of the original image was very high, in post processing I used Adobe Lightroom to pull up the shadow slightly to bring out more image details in the dark areas, image saturation was also adjusted in Lightroom, I adjusted sharpness in Photoshop as a final step.In my camera bag
in the past year I usually carried with me on photo trips a Nikon D800E camera, Zeiss 15mm f2.8, Zeiss 21mm f2.8, Nikon 24-70mm f2.8 and Nikon 70-200mm f2.8 lenses, cable release, B+W and Heliopan ND3/6/10 neutral density filters.Feedback
In many of my landscape images I intentionally include a person to demonstrate the scale of a grand landscape as well as give viewers a sense of being there at the location themselves.
