Location
This photo was taken in our sun porch, which had just become a designated cat area as we brought home these two fabulous new entries to our family.Time
It was early-mid-afternoon, where the sun light comes through the west windows at the perfect angle to provide light without too much direct sun.Lighting
Because the lighting was a natural occurrence, I did not think of anything but trying to grab the perfect shot.Equipment
This was taken with my Sony Digital SLR, in hand, no flash, I will admit to using the multiple shot application, as I do when I take pictures of anything that moves and has an unknown action possibility (like with my kids and animals).Inspiration
The cats themselves were inspiriation for me to return to photography. And actually it was this picture that inspired me to keep it going. I had received the camera as a gift because I often take pictures and enjoy this hobby. But it wasn't until the cats arrived that I felt I had active subjects. My kids often complain, and my husband doesn't like candid shots or posing. When I saw this captured image I felt that maybe I should return to actually taking pictures of random things. That morning the cats had just been extra cute with each other, and they are just magnificent creatures in themselves that I wanted to see if I could capture that aspect of them.Editing
The only thing I did was try to crop out some of the background. It was not the most glorious background, nor flattering to the cats nor myself. I didn't want the beauty of the shot to be distracted by the background goop.In my camera bag
I keep two lenses with me at all times. Although I must admit that I mainly use my telephoto lens. I need to add to my bag really. I am a minimalist. I keep a tripod with me just in case I need to get that steady shot of something to far.Feedback
Patience is always key. Animals are not easy to capture and they often move between what you see and getting the camera to your eye. The multiple shot option on cameras is great when you are taking pictures of animals. In all honesty, I think it is the only reason I got this exact shot. Even when I do single shots, I always snap more than one because it never works the way I want it to. This is the glory of the digital camera! When I learned it was on film and I never knew if I was going to have the right shot. This is probably where the knowledge to do multiple shots comes from. Just now, it is not as wasteful as the days of film where you had to wait and cross your fingers you got the right shot.
