Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken from my third floor apartment balcony, overlooking my back yard. The small collection of birch is nice enough, but the old, overgrown stepping-stone path that wanders through a no longer existant garden, adds perfectly to the simple details of a patch of ground that's now surrounded by condominiums and chain-link fences.

Time

This was taken around noon, mid-February, in Toronto.

Lighting

I actually waited for just the right moment for this one, checking every 5 minutes, and then getting it with a single shot. A short, quick snowfall brought the sun immediately after, melting the snow on the stepping-stones, but not yet the grass. The birches' shadows, I find, adds a contrast of warmth, in their mere suggestion of the sun, to the snow on the grass and the last of the falling flakes: Without the shadows, sun or not, it would be a very different photo.

Equipment

A simple Kodak Easyshare - M583; handheld and zoomed in approximately 75%.

Inspiration

A lot of my photos are, in fact, taken from my balcony. I enjoy trying to use new angles, at different times of day, with different zoom-distances, from the same spot, to find new photo-worthy shots.

Editing

None whatsoever. I don't do any post-processing on principal: I try to simply capture what is, not to create art of my own.

In my camera bag

My camera, batteries, charging/USB cord, Storage chip.
