This was taken on a rainy night walking along the river in Florence, Italy. The church lights on the steeple really stood out against the stormy night sky and everything reflected perfectly in the mostly still river. I actually like the disruption in the water from a passing boat and have left it in the image for its authenticity.

I took this shot quite randomly walking across a bridge in Florence, Italy. We were on our way back to our hotel and I remember simply turning around to look back at where we'd been and bam, there it was!Time
Haha, I took this in the middle of the night, in the middle of European winter, in the middle of this empty bridge. Now that i think about it, it was probably empty because it was so ridiculously cold! I mean layers and layers, jackets under jackets and definitely a pair of gloves that you can use your camera with! Well worth the shot though.Lighting
I really wanted a natural shot to show the beauty of the place I was in. The problem, was that I had no time and no tripod! Crazily and somehow quite miraculously I managed to take this in one shot, in the dark, on low light settings, whilst running to our hotel, without a tripod or railing to lean on and with no photoshopping required, just the prefect natural reflection. I even left the water ripples in the left of the reflection for authenticity. The city is truly amazing when it lights up.Equipment
This was a straight out shot, no flashes or tripods, just me and my then brand new Nikon D7000. (F/4.5 ; ISO 1600 ; Exposure 10/80)Inspiration
I always keep my camera with me when I'm traveling and usually 2 lenses so that I'm ready for any shots that come my way. Always be prepared because you never know what you'll find and when. As I said before, this was the middle of the night and we were simply walking back to our hotel. Nothing planned and no extra equipment, just the beautiful city and an opportunity. Sometimes the most spontaneous shots are the best.Editing
Literally the only processing on this shot was a slight darkening of the vinget around the image so that your focus on the buildings and reflection wasn't lost. It really just made sure that you look where I intend you to look. The reflection and lighting ect is all natural. The colors really bounced of the gloomy sky and crystal clear waters. In my camera bag
Honestly I just carry my Nikon D7000, a 15-150 lense, a 55-300 lense and my cleaning kit. Never forget the kit! Recently I've added a circular polarising filter and a neutral density filter but for the basics, just the lenses and cleaning kit. I throw a tripod in sometimes if I'm actually on a planned photo opp.Feedback
Definitely always be prepared! Keep a lookout for opportunities that jump out at you. Take the time to stop for a moment and focus. Look at specifically what you want in the frame, what you want people to look at and really draw your camera in to capture that one specific thing. Tell a story with your image. Look at the natural beauty, not just what you could do with the shot in post production. Try and get it right when you take it, with all that technology that's already in your hands. Your camera is amazing and so are you. Have fun with it and practice practice :)
