Behind The Lens

Location

the photo was taken in the small Istrian town of HUM, (Croatia). It is a historic town one of the oldest in the Istrian peninsula. Today it has only a few thousand inhabitants.

Time

It was early afternoon and I was going with my colleague, also an enthusiastic photographer, to visit the historic sites and shoot them. It was early spring and the weather was very nice.

Lighting

When shooting I had to pay special attention to the light. It was shot indoors, with no windows, and the light came only through the opening from the door. dark.

Equipment

I shot with the Nikon D3100 (my first camera), without the extra blitz. The lens was wide-angle, and I used a tripod.

Inspiration

I made the decision to shoot that interior because it is an old historic town, and this room may be one of the better preserved ones. Certainly this space is the topic of many photographers who have visited this locality.

Editing

I first processed the captured image in the Lightroom program and then transferred it to Photoshop where I completed the processing. In fact, this is how it handles the vast majority of photos, much less using some other software.

In my camera bag

When I go to a remote location to shoot, and this locality is about 50 km away then I usually carry a lens kit. I mean one standard, one wide angle and one telephoto lens. I also often bring a macro lens. There is a mandatory tripod, external blitz, spare batteries as well as spare camera cards. The bag also has some little things like a lens cleaner, a cloth, a flashlight and the like.

Feedback

My advice to anyone who likes to shoot in abandoned spaces is to be careful when entering and moving through abandoned spaces first. This can often be very dangerous given that abandoned buildings can often be in very poor condition and stairs and walls very unstable. When shooting, the lack of light characteristic of such spaces is often particularly taken into account. Everything else is just good will and a desire to find the best shooting location from which to get your perfect shot.
