Amazing shot. Well done. The contrast between the greys below and the colours of the boat and the sky do it for me. Love it!

Location
I took this photo on the banks of the Danube River, on the way to my grandparents' house one December day around the winter holidays.Time
This is probably one of my favorite images all time. It was taken during an overcast December afternoon. I remember that watching to the right I noticed the fisherman's boats on the banks of the river and I asked the driver to stop. I didn't have my tripod with me so this is a handheld shot. I liked the clear water on the shores and the foggy atmosphere in the distance.Lighting
The overcast atmosphere helped creating a very soft and beautiful light. Everything was perfect, beautiful light, crystal clear water, calm and serene atmosphere.Equipment
I took this shot using my Nikon D800 and the beautiful 14-24 f2.8 lens. No tripod was used, no filters, the overcast sky and the calm weather helped a lot.Inspiration
I grew up on the Danube river banks. All my summer vacations I was at my grandparents, spending a lot of time fishing, swimming enjoying beautiful moments with my childhood friends. Returning to my childhood house and watching the beautiful fisherman's boats brought back beautiful memories and made me want to capture that scene.Editing
Very few post-processing was required for this image: the overcast sky helped with the exposure. No filters were required either. I just emphasized a bit the beautiful blue color of the boat and that of the sky.In my camera bag
I always have in my camera bag a wide lens, usually the Nikkor 16-35 f4 and the Nikkor 70-200 f2.8. Sometimes I take also the 105 mm macro lens and if I go visit the country villages a portrait lens like the 85mm f1.4. The tripod is almost all the time there, together with the polarizer and the LEE filters.Feedback
I think the most important thing about capturing a beautiful photo is to be emotionally present. if you are connected with the scene in front of you then everything comes together and you are able to capture something beautiful and unique. I think being familiar with the place or the people you are photographing helps also. I visited many beautiful places but many times the very known "clichés" blocked me from taking a personal photo of the place. Some of my most beautiful images and which are close to my hart are from places I visited many times and I know very well and have also an emotional charge.
