Behind The Lens

Location

This image was captured right outside my front door. On a rose bud that had received rain earlier.

Time

I believe it would have been mid morning before the sun dried up the water droplets.

Lighting

I have good light out on the farm. The sun rises in front of the house. So it is always bright.

Equipment

I have Canon DSLRs and this image was taken many years ago. It would have been the 5DM3 with the 24-105mm lens. Which is always on the camera ready for anything.

Inspiration

I was lucky. I would have been outside looking to capture water droplets after the rain. The wasp was there and didn't fly away. I took many shots of this little insect from various angles. But this one was the best.

Editing

I don't believe I did much at all. I have cropped it to focus on the wasp and the rosebud. Perhaps a little contrast. I don't remember. The camera did a wonderful job and I was thrilled with how good the image turned out.

In my camera bag

Depending on what I am about to photograph. In the past it was always the 5DM3 and the 24-105. I have upgraded to the 5DM4 and I am still learning how to use it properly. But if it is for sport then I take the 70-200 and the 100-400. If it is a wedding then I also have to include the older 5DM2 as I have a 2nd shooter.

Feedback

Patience is a key. Bring unobtrusive as possible. Have your camera ready with a decent lens to capture the insect. A fast shutter speed if it is a fast moving creature. Perhaps a tripod. I would have leant on the verandah post to help me be stable.
