Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in Iceland at THAT location - but from another angle - i really wanted to try and do something different.

Time

Iceland in late autumn has limited hours of sunlight - this was captured late afternoon but it's a state of permanent twilight - the sun never really gets too high ion the sky and daylight is around 7 hours at the most!

Lighting

I had a ND grad on the lens at the time of the shot, a 6 stop. Light in Iceland is always diffused making for very ethereal pictures.

Equipment

Nikon D3200 with a basic tripod - in truth this was one of my first real shots.

Inspiration

Look around you - Iceland is full of wonders every way you turn!

Editing

I wanted to create something mysterious to match the landscape - the post processing is designed to create that feeling. Colour adjustment and dodge/burning to create a 3 dimensional feeling.

In my camera bag

Nowadays i work with a Fuji Mirrorless, 4 lenses and a carbon fibre tripod. I always carry my Lee Big Stopper and a cable release. Minimal kit but very effective at most focal lengths.

Feedback

Iceland is a photographers paradise - the light lends to taking shots at all times of day. My only advice to grab a similar image - go there!
