Behind The Lens

Location

I took this shot in Atlanta, Ga. at the Marriott Marquis hotel in the downtown area.

Time

This shot was taken mid-morning at around 10 am.

Lighting

Unfortunately because of the time of day the highlights at the very top of the image are somewhat blown out. Also, because of strong highlights and deep shadows I shot a 3 bracket exposure.

Equipment

I shot this image handheld using a Sony A77M2 camera paired with a Tokina 11-16mm f2.8 lens.

Inspiration

I have a fascination with architecture both new and old. This hotel definitely has a look of being in a futuristic module. The strong leading lines in this hotel makes for a very intriguing subject.

Editing

I shot this as an 3 exposure bracketed image (2 stops apart) and then ran it through Lightroom's HDR processor and then just did some basic edits highlights, shadows and contrast.

In my camera bag

I travel a lot in my job. Many times I return to cities that I have been to before and perhaps scouted out a particular location. With that in mind I bring what I think I may need in terms of lens choice. With this hotel I knew I would want a wide angle which led to me taking along my UWA Tokina lens. I do bring my Sony camera on some trips but on most others take an Olympus OM-D E-M10 with a couple of prime lenses.

Feedback

Well beside looking straight ahead, I'm constantly looking up especially when walking about larger metropolitan areas seeking out what I hope will be an unique perspective. Sometimes what may appear at first to be rather boring and mundane can be transformed just by moving about to see what different angles will provide in a photo opportunity.
