Behind The Lens

Location

London, Ontario, Canada. The pocke twatch was my grandfather's, and the wagon wheel the watch is sitting on was from his farm.

Time

It was mid-afternoon after a day of visiting my grandfather's farm. My grandfather has passed about 5 years prior to when this photo was taken.

Lighting

It was a sunny afternoon, but there was a lot of shaded areas, so the lighting was a challenge. But when you find the perfect spot, you just know it.

Camera and its editing features

Inspiration

Simply put, I miss my grandfather. I wish I had been older and wiser before he died so that I could have spoken to him more about his past. He was a very quiet man, so I don't think I ever sat down and had a "real" conversation with him. As an adult, I think I would have learned so much from him and found his life story incredibly interesting and inspiring.

Editing

I used the built-in camera editing features (Pentax)

Feedback

Oh my ... I think this is my favourite photo because it was inspired. I felt close to my grandfather that day and wanted to capture a piece of his history. Inspiration impacts my photography so much. More technically, it was about the angles. I wanted to get the reflection of the watch face, so the angle dictated the entire shot. Then, knowing to use an antique-looking feature to enhance the shot brought it all together.
