Behind The Lens

Location

I took this shot in Lower Antelope Canyon in Page, Arizona. I was laying on my back looking for new perspectives and found this great photo opportunity looking up the incredible canyon!

Time

This was about 5:03 PM in Antelope Canyon. During the road trip back to our base in Utah I was determined to find a way to get to Antelope Canyon so we extended the drive about 3 hours to be able to see the coolest Canyon I have ever been to.

Lighting

The light that peeked through the top of the canyon is what made the colors way easier to capture. Definitely go at a time when you can get some light or it will look a bit bold.

Equipment

This was shot on a NIKON D800 with AF-S Nikkor 18-35mm f/3.5-4.5G ED as my settings and lens.

Inspiration

What inspired me to take this photo is that I have seen some of my favorite photographers take similar photos of this canyon and it looked so insane, so I had to go see it myself and capture the colors of Antelope Canyon.

Editing

For this shot, I did not use post processing because this was at a time when I didn't know what I was doing as much as I do now, so this is an original shot!

In my camera bag

I almost always bring my NIKON D800 with a 24-120, 50, and 150-600 (If I'm near wildlife) Lenses, I take Lens Cleaners, lens hoods, a Manfrotto Tripod, Filters, and that's my normal pack up!

Feedback

If you want to capture Antelope Canyon or a similar kind of Canyon, definitely go when there is good light. If you can you should try to avoid the most amount of crowds you can, and also, take a bunch of photos, so you don't regret getting everything you wanted while in the Canyon setting.
