I thought I had uploaded this before. Whoops!

EDIT: I did, I'm an idiot. Oh well.

Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in my very own living room in Ridgewood, NY!

Time

This was taken mid afternoon in late August of 2014. My living room is especially sunny between 3 and 6 PM during that time of year and we wanted to utilize as much natural light as possible.

Lighting

I would love to say 'we went all natural' as far as the light was concern, but I *think* I had some studio lights behind me just to use as fill lights. I could be mistaken though, it's been about 2 years (hard to believe it's gone by so fast...).

Equipment

I used a Canon T3i (EOS 600D if you're across the pond) with a 50mm 1.8 lens, nothing too fancy. :)

Inspiration

We were winging the theme really - a bad habit of mine. The model, Justina, wanted to apply temporary tattoos all over her body and coloreher hair green(ish); she wanted to relay a punk-like feel to the shots and I thought, "what better way to accompany punk than with some music?" I had a collection of vinyls and some retro-looking headphones on hand and figured it was a perfect match.

Editing

I cannot resist doing some post processing, although Justina is a great model and I needed to do very little. Other than some minor touch ups and temperature correction, the shot really stood on its own.

In my camera bag

I pack so lightly, it's almost detrimental to my hobby. I typically roll with only a camera strapped over my shoulder - no bag at all. If I do have a bag, it's got merely enough room for a camera with a lens (but the bag is too small for a zoom lens), an extra battery, and another memory card. Occasionally I'll take a second lens with me and fasten it directly to my belt.

Feedback

Light is always crucial - that seems very Photography 101, but it's something I learned during this shoot moreso than any other shoot I've done. Also, there's no substitute for chemistry between a photographer and a model. We had a good vibe and were able to just go without second-guessing anything. That being said: never be afraid to just go. Even if you have no ideas at all, just go full speed ahead, you'll create something - always better than nothing.
