Behind The Lens

Location
Took this on state route 107 in East Kingston NH (about 8 miles inland from Seabrook beach). I was heading to a wooded area I had seen from the car to try to get some shots in the woods with the sun over my shoulder.....crested a small hill and saw this. Stopped and stood by the car as the sun set and took several shots. Just as I was about to leave a Harley crested the same hill and I got a yee-ha and a Nice shot from the driver.
Time
7:52 PM.....probably 20 minutes before sundown....I knew it was gonna be a good one (mid July thru mid September always are here) was hunting for something else but this presented itself and had to be shot!
Lighting
Shooting at the sun is challenging....I could see the shadow lines appearing in the wake of the clouds and want to emphasize them without a big overexposure. The most challenging part for me in this type of shot is the brightness makes the LED's of the settings hard to see and the view screen as well....so I tend to do an initial set then shoot several shutter speeds either way. The shot isn't there long.
Equipment
Canon 6D, Tamron 200-500mm F/5.6-6.3 @ 200 MM. Hand held. This one was 1/500 F8...ISO Auto @ 100
Inspiration
Was out to shoot something else but this presented itself and I couldn't resist...I take a lot of sunrises and sunsets living at the beach and often tell people the scenery is gifted daily....I just happened to be nearby with a camera!
Editing
Yes....The as shot is in my profile as 2015-7-29 19:52:00...when I post unedited it's the time stamp....if I edit I name the photo. Was trying to emphasize the wake lines so I lowered the exposure a bit and went up on highlights and whites. I am a rank novice on LR5 and am in need of book learning but a find myself heavily using the clarity slider in either direction depending on whats in the shot....this shot is heavy + Need to figure out how to make the camera do more of that. I'm also partially color blind so there are some sliders I don't touch....I need an assistant.
In my camera bag
Canon 6D and a Canon SL1....the 6D is awesome....and the SL1 is light and compact. Always have a Tokina 11-26MM F2.8, My Tamron 200-500, and usually a Tamron 28-75 F2.8 and I just got a couple of Breakthrough Photography ND filters (3F and 6F) which I am really enjoying. Always have a least a monopod in the car.
Feedback
Always remember to leave the damn thing in continuous mode! and if your doing sunrises or sunsets....consider some sort of filter.
