Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo when out walking our dog in Sulham Woods, near Reading in Berkshire, England.

Time

I had just got to the woods, parked up and set off out along the path into the woods. It must have been early afternoon, probably around 12:30 I'd say.

Lighting

The photo was taken in February so the light was pretty crisp.

Equipment

Only equipment I used was my camera, a Canon 70D and my very basic Canon EF-S 70-250mm. It came out pretty well I think.

Inspiration

This little fella was sat in the tree watching me. I was never really into bird photography up until this moment in time. I thought I'd just try my luck and see how it turned out. As it happens he was more than happy to sit patiently whilst I fiddled about getting my camera out, focussing and what not. He even flew closer to see what I was doing. Since taking this photo I've put a bird feeding station in my back garden and love taking photos of the visitors we get.

Editing

I put this photo through Creative Kit Intensify (only tweaking it a little), then a little sharpening in Lightroom.

In my camera bag

My camera body (Canon 70D), tripod (a cheap Manfrotto), and various lenses; Canon EF 70-300 USM L IS f/4 Canon EF 100mm USM IS L f/2.8 Canon EF 24-104mm USM L IS f/4 Canon EF-S 70-250mm

Feedback

Not being a professional all I can suggest is to get out there and take photos of anything that catches your eye. It's all about seeing wonder where ever you are, whatever you're doing.
