London is a city that needs no description. I believe it is the most spectacular and fascinating in Europe. It is not only a matter of monuments and tourist attractions. London is about atmosphere, historic feeling, a modern town in a modern country with strong links and roots in its past and culture. I worked as historian most of my life and London is an extraordinary testimonial of European and Western history. In this image I like the mix of elements strongly British: the Big Ben and the River Thames, two very special symbols of London; the Palace of Westminster, that served as the home of Parliament and the seat of the Royal Courts of Justice since the 13th century; and in the foreground the image of the tourist city, vital and friendly, a small postcard shop outdoor with the Union Jack waving in the wind. I took this picture from the eastern side of Westminster Bridge.
