Location
I took this photo in the Mojave Desert in California.Time
I believe this was late morning or early afternoon. It was raining and heavy fog off and on thru out the day.Lighting
The lighting was diffused from the fog and low clouds.Equipment
First I was out camping and with the awning out and with the rain I had a dry area to set up. I used my Nikon D800 and Tamron 150 to 600 zoom lens. I used my "3 Legged Thing" Equinox tripod.Inspiration
There were Ravens everywhere and with the rain and fog it gave the area an unusual look to it, kind of foreboding and when the Raven landed on the fence it so reminded me of "The Stand" by Steven King. Hence the name of the photo.Editing
I did do some post processing in Lightroom. I adjusted highlights and shadows to bring out the picture a little more. It was slightly dark so I also adjusted the blacks. Lastly I did some clarity to bring out the wood grain and feathers. In my camera bag
I have an extensive collection of cameras and lenses. I change what I bring with me according to what I want out of a photo. My main camera is my Nikon D800 and I have a back up Nikon D7000. My wife is starting to use the D7000 as she wants to upgrade from the Nikon D70. My lenses cover 15-600mm with a macro, extension tubes and a doubler that will give me 1200mm max. The brands of lenses I have are Nikkor, Tamron and Sigma. I like them all.Feedback
I would guess that the most important thing is being there to capture what you want. I have been to that same area 6 or 7 times a year for over 10 years and this was the first time it had fog with rain. Get out as often as possible with your camera, especially in adverse weather.
