Location
This shot was taken at the Cozumel Country Club at the beginning of a "golden hour" sunset. Because of the time the colors are more vibrant and not washed because of the hot sun.Time
I always take my camera on the course and we either go early or close the course down. I have had many opportunities for wild life a especially birds at those times of the day. The course is a National Auduban recognized location.Lighting
I tend to shoot under exposed. I like the mystery in shadows. I often will think thru my shoots, where is the sun? Is there water? Then I'm really focused on what I might find that's aligned with this elements. I need to be thorough and patient. Usually I can find something worthy of shooting.Equipment
This image was taken with my first Nikon. A D3100 and the 80-200mm lens that comes with it. It was a handheld shot. I got as close as I could and still have a clear shot of the eye.Inspiration
The inspiration is nature itself. Nature is so random. Nostter where you shoot or where you live. I am always prepared for what ever shows up. I have a fairly sense of what my camera can doEditing
I try to process in camera before the shot. After, I usually only look at the contrast, the shadows, and the highlights. If I got the exposure right I won't need to move my black and whites. I always hope and try for at least the correct exposure. I leave my white balence on auto. Shooting nature it's always pretty spot on.In my camera bag
Extra batteries, a towel, rain coat for the camera. Monopod, tripod and a variety of lens.Feedback
Take your time. Know your camera. Be patient and breathe. Take the shot with several different combos of speed, app and ISO. move around ssuch as you can to get different angles.
