Sunset.Lighting
It is sometimes difficult to take a shot at sunset if you are pointing at or near the sun, but this is where clouds can be your best friend. They act like a filter and enable you to get a shot that isn't too over exposed.Equipment
Canon 1100D with kit lens handheld.Inspiration
The boat being back lit with the sunset gave a great look and composition.Editing
Yes I will have edited the exposure, highlights and contrast to get the best look. Then increased the saturation of the sunset to get a warm look.In my camera bag
I now use a Sony A6300 with Sony 70-350 telephoto lens most of the time. I also have landscape and macro lenses with me. A mini manfroto tripod also fits in my backpack. Depending on what I am photographing I may also bring along some filters.Feedback
Remember the sun even at sunset can give you a problem with exposure. If you don't have clouds in the sky it may be wise to have an ND filter ready - you can also get a reverse ND especially for sunset photography. Alternatively use exposure bracketing and take several different exposures that can be blended later. Work out your composition and allow a little margin around the image so you can straighten or crop where necessary. Don't be afraid of something being silhouetted or back lit - contre-jour shots can be stunning and have their own feel.
