Early afternoonLighting
Natural lighting only, it was a crisp, clear day with the sun in perfect position to get a fantastic reflection off the water.Equipment
Nikon D3200 with 50-80mm lens. No flash, no tripod.Inspiration
I love taking shots around Lake Minnewanka the natural beauty is amazing. This was in late December and the lake hadn't frozen over completely; I hadn't seen this much open water on the lake this late in the year before. It was fascinating to see how the light played through the water and how clear the mountain was that day.Editing
Post processing entailed cropping and small tweaks to the lighting. In my camera bag
In my bag I always have my Nikon D3200 with the 50-80 mm lens, a Tameron 80-300 zoom lens with at least one extra 16 GB memory card.Feedback
Always be prepared to move around to get a better angle. How light hits your subject can be subtly different; shadows shift and perspective changes. A good shot can turn into an amazing shot by just changing the angle from which you are looking at the subject or by moving to back to get a better balance. I walked along the shore and up and down the boat ramp at the lake until I found the perspective I wanted.
