Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken from a bridge overlooking the creek that runs through Whistler, B.C. Canada.

Time

This was taken in December just before Christmas. I am a Southern California native so scenes like this are rare to me.I read up on photographing snow scenes and I like how the morning sun brightens the banks while the snow in the shadows retains its characteristic blue.It was all white to my eye but that is because our non-artificial intelligence knows that snow is always white!

Lighting

I love mornings, it is so quiet and peaceful and you get that low angle light associated with the golden hour. Joni Mitchell wrote a song called 'Chelsea Morning' where one line is 'And the sun poured in like butterscotch and stuck to all my senses'. That is how I feel about mornings like the one pictured here.

Equipment

Handheld shot with Nikon d70 and kit 18-70 zoom lens.

Inspiration

It was a beautiful place an a beautiful time of day. One of the ways I improve my photographic vision is to look at as many great pictures and great photographers that I can. ViewBug is a wonderful platform for expanding my photographic horizons.I don't try to copy other photographers photographs but I do try to emulate them.

Editing

Yes, most post processing I do is in Adobe Lightroom and sometimes Snapseed on my phone or tablet.I usually shoot raw so I can have complete control over the picture.

In my camera bag

I now carry a Nikon D500 and the D70 is my backup camera. I have a good assortment of lenses; the 16-80 kit lens which is excellent, a Nikor 40 mm micro, a Nikor 10-20 wide angle zoom and a Sigma 150-600 zoom. I also have a godox 860v ii flash and some attachments to modify the light.
