Location
This is a photo of Multnomah Falls near Portland Oregon, U.S.A. This and many other waterfalls enter the Columbia River from the sheer cliffs lining the gorge that makes a narural border between the states of Washington and Oregon.Time
My family and I were on a midday hike. The sun produced the wonderful rays of light across the shadowed gap.Lighting
The sunlight filtering through the trees was an added bonus to the beautiful symmetry of the falls accented by the bridge.Equipment
Although I had my Nikon D70 with me, this shot was taken on my Galaxy S III phone.Inspiration
This spot is well known to many who live in the Northwest United States and is the object of many postcard shots. The sheer beauty and scale of the waterfall has to be captured inspires almost all who see it at least to pull out their phone and take a selfie with the falls in the background.Editing
The original color shot was not that impressive. I have always loved black and white and began to experiment with this shot using various editing apps on my phone. I am very pleased with the results. In my camera bag
For digital I have a Nikon D70 and now I use a Galaxy Note 4 smartphone. I also use a Nikon F2 for film shooting.Feedback
The end result was not intentional. It was just a smartphone snap of a beautiful place. The best thing to do is train your eye to see composition and light. This is best accomplished by looking at the many beautiful shots that are out there. Vote on viewbug, it helps you develop your own vision. If you find a style you like, don't copy but emulate.
