The Nativity story has been a part of my life since babyhood - literally: as a five-month-old baby I played the part of Baby Jesus in our church's Christmas pageant. And my parent have had, ever since I can remember, this little Mexican Nativity set made of ceramic and hand-painted in red and gold. Ever since moving into my own place last year, I'd been wanting a Nativity set of my own, though I never imagined that Nativity sets of this style were so common. I expected to find a different one, so imagine my pleasant surprise to find Nativity sets of the same Mexican style in various colors in just about every single shop at the Marketplace - El Mercado - in San Antonio. And so here you have it, my first Nativity scene, with pride-of-place at the base of my tiny Christmas tree in my own apartment.
