This shot was taken in my school's studio. I think I found something similar on the web and couldn't wait to try it on my own.Time
I spent the entire day in the studio playing around with fruits, sparkling water, and oil. I remember my teacher walking into the studio and saying "you still here?!" surprised. I think it was supposed to be my day off.Lighting
I had a monolight on top of my set with a big softbox and pocket wizard on top of my camera. My fruit bowl was in middle air balancing on two chairs. I had printed colorful images from the web on the floor giving plenty of distance between printed image and fruit (my main subject).Equipment
At the time I had Nikon D5100 with 24-120 lens. I had a pocket wizard on top of my camera so I could move freely and have different angles. The pocket wizard was connected to singular monolight with a large softbox. I also had a ladder for some angles.Inspiration
I love to experiment and I had this vision in my head so I had to try it. It was honestly a decision I made in just 15 mins and just run to the store to get stuff I needed.Editing
Only a little bit. I adjusted contrast and corrected color balance. My exposure was good, to begin with.In my camera bag
Now I've upgraded to Nikon D610 but still use the same lens, Nikkor 24-120. I also always carry my laptop with me, spare battery, headphones, and lens hood. In my car, I have 3 monolight kit and a tripod.Feedback
You will need the subject (strawberry in my case), colorful background image (I printed mine on a regular printer on an A4 page), glass water container(I had a problem with this one, to find one that didn't have any writings on its bottom), sparkling water and oil. Don't be afraid to use oil. Half of the day I was using only sparkling water, which is great if you are planning on eating the fruits after your photo shoot, but oil will produce the most amazing and astonishing results. I was in the dark studio with only one monolight fix on top of the set. Connect your camera to monolight with a pocket wizard of a sort and you are good to go. I suggest bringing two lenses. One regular that you use and other macro lens and figure out which one you like the best.
