The photo was taken in my garage, having been in hiatus for so long, I decided to work on some new works base on old ideas.Time
Ahhh, I am a night owl! Since it's really a portrait and I lack models the figure is in fact me. So I reckon this photo would be taken way past midnight. As for the tree in the background it was shot completely separate I try to shoot in the morning or late afternoon when the sun is at a lower angle to create better lighting and more contrast between highlights and shadowsLighting
Lighting ?? I use to complain to a friend once about never having enough money to do the "big" budget artworks that professional's have. He turned to me and said "The best artist will use what resources they have". So in this case The light source is my Iphone suspended from the ceiling with a white Styrofoam lid use as a reflecter to light the mask I am wearing.Equipment
Lol ahh by now you will have guessed, This is a very low budget shot. At the time of this photo I didn't have a tripod so I balanced my Canon EOS 600D, no flash, just long exposure with a timer, allowing me time to focus the shot and get into postion.Inspiration
It a photo from a small series I was/ am working on. I was hesitated to share the image on an online forum. But the ideas are about emotion and identity. In this particular image is represents my embrace of life as I look up into the light and embrace it. The tree was used as symbol of life by the Celts and myself being of Irish/ English decent used this symbol as well.Editing
I can't say alot about post- processing,.All my post-processing is by pure instinct, and I really don't remember. I can say is that I use Photoshop, usually I will layer the images, I will always adjust contrast and opacity. I always play with colour saturation. I may have used an filter on the tree like a solarize? Or invert I can't really remember however in this particular image there ain't much I tinkerd with.In my camera bag
Pfffft A cheap tripod, An old Canon EOS 600D DSLR 2 lences, and A remote cable realease. A passion for photography and imaginationFeedback
Well use what you got, you don't need to be a pro to capture great images, As I said I use an IPhone light and Styrofoam lid, experiment, be imaginative. Once of the best advices I've ever read was " No matter what the day looks like or how crappy the light is go with your creative instinct".
