Behind The Lens

Location

It was taken up a canyon about 20 minutes from my house. There was a large herd of them just north of the mouth of the canyon. I parked the truck and walked closer to them. They were curious at first and just bunched up together to watch me. They stood there and watched as I took pictures of them. It was amazing.

Time

It was about mid afternoon in the spring time. I drove up the canyon just to take pictures and hike around. Coming out of the canyon I spotted the herd and decided to try to walk closer to them. They let me get pretty close. They seemed very curious, until this guy decided it was time to leave me. Then they all followed. Up the side of the mountain and across the top they ran. It sound like thunder rolling down the mountain top. It was so exciting for me, I just had to watch them until I couldn't see or hear them any longer.

Lighting

This was purely by chance. They stuck around and watched me long enough to let me adjust my camera speed but this shot was a lucky one. The sun was in a good position and my settings were good. It wall just worked out for me that day.

Equipment

I used a Canon T3i rebel with a 18-270mm Tamron lens.

Inspiration

I love outdoors and animals. To see these animals and get this shot, I truly feel lucky. I don't get to see them much and I loved that they stuck around and watched me before they decided to take off. This was a very lucky shot. Any chance I get to take pictures of wildlife I take. Animals are my favorite subject but not always easy to take and they don't always cooperate.

Editing

No processing at all.

In my camera bag

I have a spare battery and charger. Extra sd cards and usually a lens cleaning cloth with some lens filters. I don't take much because I usually go hiking or walking around up canyons and I am not the graceful of people, so the less I carry the less I may break.

Feedback

The more you go out the more chances you have to see things like this. Even if you do see them it doesn't mean you get to take a good picture of them either. But it is still fun to be out in nature and at least get to see stuff anyways. Just keep going out and take lots of pictures. Eventually you are bound to get a good one.
