Location
In the historic 'Speicherstadt' in Hamburg, a historic warehouse district built in 1883, situated near to the city centre and the River Elbe.Time
After sunset at the beginning of the blue hourLighting
Architecture photos or city scenes works great within the blue hour, because you can get a proper exposure without an overexposure of the sky. The historic warehouses have a light installation which turns on automatically after sunset. I used aperture f11 to get some flare effects and lights stars coming from the many light sources.Equipment
A Canon 70D on a tripod with a cable release for maximum sharpness and a Canon 18-135mm f3,5 lens which was one of the kit lenses to choose from when I bought the camera.Inspiration
This place is one of the most famous tourist spots in the city and I wanted to catch its beauty in the best time of the day to see it: Right after sunset. There are a lot of great things in this spot: The leading lines, the building at the end of the warehouses, the reflection in the water, the lights, the historic buildings... it has it allEditing
I raised the shadows and reduces the highlights, using Lightroom. I did some sharpening and tone corrections as well.In my camera bag
I use a Canon EOS70D and different Canon lenses: A 10-18mm wide angle, an 18-135mm zoom, a 50mm and a 75-300 zoom lens. On top, I own a Haida Filter set with a graduated ND filter and a 6 stop ND filter for long exposures plus my most important filter: A 105mm Haida Polarizer. Furthermore, I use a remote control and a Manfrotto action tripod.Feedback
I use a Canon 70D with two Canon lenses (18-135mmf3,5; 50mm f1,8) and a Tamron 11-16mm f2,8 lens which is the best ASP-C lens I owned so far. My tripod is a Manfrotto MT055CXPRO3 Carbon tripod with magnesium ball head. It is really sturdy and was a great investment. I didn't realize how important it is to have a good tripod until I used this one. It has really improved the sharpness of my images. I use a third party cable release to release the shutter without touching my camera. My filter set contain a HAIDA Filter holder, a HAIDA 80mm polarizer, a HAIDA 6 stop ND Filter and a NISI graduated ND Filter
