This is such a stunning shot, and brings back so many great memories! Did you see the eels? They make swimming in there quite an adventure :p

Awesome. I live locally to this lake but I've never seen it so amazing.

Location
The pier is located at Lake Rotoiti, St. Arnaud, South New Zealand.Time
During the "blue hour", approximately 20 minutes after sunset.Lighting
It is the very special light situation, which makes this shot so special. The full moon was right behind me and illuminated the pier with silverish light shortly after the sun had set. I used my ND filter to increase the exposure to 30 seconds at f13, what created the very smooth look of the water and the blurred clouds.Equipment
I used my Canon EOS 70D on a tripod with my Canon 18-135mm lens on 18mm. I attached my 6 stop ND filter to increase the exposure to 30 seconds.Inspiration
In 2014/2015, me and my fiancèe travelled the world for nearly 12 months. It was a very special time for us and we were able to see some of the most amazing parts of the world in Dubai, Singapur, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, USA and Iceland. I saw photos of this location before we came to New Zealand and was looking forward to seeing this location. It is an amazing place and the whole scene is just gorgeous. Luckily, the full moon rose directly behind me, bathing the scenery in silverish light. I'm really happy to have this shot in my portfolio.Editing
I worked mostly on showing the silverish light of the full moon reflecting on the pier. The pier had two rather ugly 'no diving' signs on the last two posts, which I removed using Photoshop. Furthermore, I made some usual adjustment in Lightroom to get the photo similar to the scene which I saw.In my camera bag
I use a Canon EOS70D and different Canon lenses: A 10-18mm wide angle, an 18-135mm zoom, a 50mm and a 75-300 zoom lens. On top, I own a Haida Filter set with a graduated ND filter and a 6 stop ND filter for long exposures plus my most important filter: A 105mm Haida Polarizer. Furthermore, I use a remote control and a Manfrotto action tripod.Feedback
The composition is really simple, as piers in lakes or at the sea are always working nicely as foreground interest and leading lines towards the background. It is important to find the right height for the camera to compose the shot how you like it the most. For structures like piers, symmetry is very important. Level your camera and shoot straight towards the pier, sea bridge etc. To get a smooth surface and blurred clouds, use a tripod and a remote control.
