Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in downtown DesMoines by Zombie Burger!

Time

I almost always shoot my sessions during Golden Hour! This is either during sunrise or sunset where the light... Well, it looks golden!

Lighting

The lighting for this photo was perfect! The senior was positioned by a window, so the light was bouncing off the glass for a perfecly lit face!

Equipment

This photo was shot with a Nikon d750 using a 50mm 1.4.

Inspiration

This senior has the most gorgeous eyes! I just HAD to have a photo showing off those big eyes!

Editing

This photo was edited pretty simply. I brightened up the face a bit, cleared the background so it was a bit less distracting, brightened up the eyes some, turned it b&w, and then made a little dent in my tone curve for a little less contrast.

In my camera bag

I always carry around more than I need... My bag includes: Nikon d750, Nikon 50mm 1.4, Nikon 18-55mm, Sigma 70-200 2.8, Nikon 105mm 208, four 64gb flashdrives, ponytails, hairspray, reflectors, extra batteries and a battery grip, lens wipes, and a few other things!

Feedback

The best way I've found to pose clients is to show them yourself what you want and then move on from there. Do it yourself! If you don't want them to smile, don't smile yourself! It's hard to be serious when everyone else is happy! If youre asking them to open their eyes, show them by opening your own eyes! Cross your arms the way you want them to! Photography is all about capturing a moment, and I'd you can show them the moment before it's even captured, then they will be more comfortable with knowing exactly what you want!
