The festival is based on the Celtic feast of Lughnasadh a Gaelic festival marking the beginning of the harvest season. Along with Samhain, Imbolc and Beltane, Lughnasadh is one of the four Gaelic seasonal festivals marking summer & winter solstice and autumn & spring equinox.
