Can you tell me more about this picture? How did you get right below Charlie? what lens were you using? I really love this picture!

Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at the Beach in Mosselbaai, South Africa. I was still a beginner at the time and got lucky to have a friend with a very active dog to practice with :)

Time

This was taken about mid-afternoon. We went for a nice walk by the beach and Charlie was having great fun chasing seagulls, jumping after Shells we throw (that's what you see in the picture) and cooling off in the Ocean. We spend all afternoon just strolling around and having fun.

Lighting

It is just natural lighting.

Equipment

At the time of taking this picture, I was using my first ever DSLR: Canon 550D with the standard Kit Lens. I didn't have a lot of equipment yet, as I was still brand new to Photography

Inspiration

I just loved how active Charlie was. He would run and jump after literally anything we would throw! For this one, we just thew a shell straight up in the air and I wondered what kind of different angles I could try. So I just tested and got so lucky with this one!

Editing

I only did some very basic editing in Lightroom. Just adjusting the colors/shadows/highlights a little.

In my camera bag

Since then, I have upgraded to an Nikon D7100. My go to Lens is my 18-105 F3.5 I also usually have a Zoom lens on my, as I do love to shoot some animals most of the time :) My tripod is a Vanguard Alta + and I recently added a Trigger Remonte to my bag to experiment with some Night Time Shots!

Feedback

It´s all a try and error with this one and a lot of luck is involved that the dog jumps just right into your frame. It's quite hard to plan as you can't really tell the dog how or where to jump :) Just bring a lot of patience, a high frame per second helps, and obviously some treats for the doggy ;)
