Location
The majestic white lion lives in the Lion&Rhino park near Johannesburg in South Africa. I have only had my camera for a couple of weeks before I left for my 2 week adventure so everything was a big trial and error for me at the time. I stopped because I saw a few lionesses crossing the path and took a few pictures of them. When I turned to the side, the big lion was looking right at me. He stood like that for a minute or so watching me - a very intense feeling!Time
I arrived quite early in the park. Lots of different areas with animals just roaming around. I spend most of the morning looking for the Rhinos. After my luch break I felt ready to search some big cats. I can not remember the time exactly but some when in the early afternoon.Lighting
All natural lighting. It was a slightly cloudy day.Equipment
My first DSLR ever was a Canon 550D and I used the standard 18-55mm kit lense.Inspiration
I really love animals and going to South Africa had been on my list for a while, so I thought the best way to learn fast on the new camera is to surround myself with subjects I like to take pictures off. To be honest, I was just really lucky to be on that path at the right time. I only have 1 picture of this lion looking at me as I was really captivated by him.Editing
I usually never edit too much. Though I did use Photoshop to get rid of a few fence poles in the background which I found very distracting. In my camera bag
For this holiday I was out with a very basic kit as I just started out with my photography. I had my Canon 550D Body and 2 standard kit lenses. The 18-55mm and 55-250mm. I was very happy with this set up and kept it for quite a while and improved it with little accessories like a shutter remote, small tripod and a flash eventually. As I travel a lot I try to keep everything as light as possible.Feedback
Bring a lot of patience. Wildlife is always unpredictable! So is the weather as well. Make sure you know your camera and settings and are prepared if you have to wait a little bit (bring water, some snacks). Maybe you can try with a lucky charm? :)
