Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken in front of a forest in Romania, she's wearing a wedding gown as it started as a thrash the dress shoot.

Time

Time? sunset. The sun was setting down behind her, i liked the earthly tones in the back against the purity (brightness) so i thought it would be a great background.

Lighting

Its all natural lighting; soft light from the sky, being cast down to us. I wanted softness, low contrast even though i enhanced it a bit

Equipment

As far as i remember, i used a 85mm at 1.8 and a Nikon D610; and the help of my assistant to lift her dress, to have some motion

Inspiration

The tons of images on the internet with dresses that appear in motion; the desire to try and learn new things. Hope.

Editing

I did quite post-process the image; from removing my assistant from the image, to creating soft sunbeams in the back of the scene in order to have more elements and enlarging the photograph and cloning some background in the corners. The light on her dress and skin is also mildly retouched.

In my camera bag

I usually carry a 50mm and a 85mm at 1.8 and my d610. The minimum equip to shoot in natural light. Depending on the nature of the "job" i sometimes carry a reflector, 2 softboxes, 2 flashes, a tripod and 2 stands; sometimes even a ladder or a Led Lamp :)

Feedback

Think thoroughly what you want to capture, in your head, before the shoot. If if helps you might even sketch it and at the same time be open to the environment cause your plans might change very quickly once you arrive at the location, due to meteorological conditions, clouds, wind, etc. You need to both plan and be spontaneous & flexible. Besides this, you might also want to learn alot of Photoshop for postprocessing - you might be able to do there what in reality is impossible, highly improbable or very hard.
