I took this image at Llanberis North Wales which is one of the starting points to walk up to Snowdon the highest peak through out Wales. I found this waterfall hidden right under neath the train tracks that lead up to Snowdon. I was very happy with my discovery which I believe is one of the finishing points of the rivers that flow through out the mountains.Time
This is one of my favorite images that I have taken of waterfalls over the years. This image was taken around 2 pm where the sun's glare was not a problem and all the focus was on the water falls stream. I remember shooting this image because I was balancing my self on two rocks whilst the tripod was deep within the water. It was a difficult shot to get but I couldn't be happier with the outcome.Lighting
I wanted this image to be focused about the area and the beauty of this waterfall's flow so I focused my lighting on capturing the flow of water surging through out the image. I also wanted to highlight the raw color's that was surrounding this waterfall so I kept my color's strong so that the main focus would be the waterfall and that it had that added color to finish the image off.Equipment
This was shot on a Nikon D300s with an AF -S Nikon 18 - 200 mm lens and I used a Manfrotto ART 144 tripod.Inspiration
I was watching a documentary about Vatnajökull National Park, in Iceland and I was amazed by the landscapes and the beauty of the area which they shoot the famous waterfall at the park. It was the best landscape I had seen in my life so the next day I got my camera grabbed my tripod and went exploring for local water falls, I wasn't looking for the same size or same area as the Iceland shoot but I was looking for some where that a beautiful flow of water which fortunately I came across underneath the train tracks of snowdon's trainline.Editing
Usually I would merge to images together one for the flow of water and another for the sky but fortunately enough with this image it all held together. The only thing that I did to this image during post process was I played with the colors ever so slightly to get the right feeling for the image. I wanted the greens and browns to stand out and to make the photograph.In my camera bag
There are fair few things that I pack within my bag, Firstly I make sure that I have my Nikon D300s camera body attached with my AF -S Nikon 18 - 200 lens. The combination of them together never lets me down the lens has a great scope to it rather than working with three different lenses you have one solid lens that does all the jobs that you would need it to do. The body is amazing and does the job the third thing I pick which In my eyes is the most important would be my light meter my Sekonic L - 308S which has never let me down to get the right exposure. Finally is my very sturdy Manfrotto art 144 tripod which is very solid and gives me that sturdiness that I need when shooting moving images.Feedback
The biggest advice I could give to a starter if shooting waterfalls would be getting the sturdiest tripod you can afford. If you have a sturdy tripod its half the battle to get your focus right. Essentially you need to think of a few things your depth of field, lighting, and shutter speed if you can crack those three elements whilst shooting waterfalls your well on you way too capture some amazing images.
