Location
This photo was taken in my back yard as the bird perched on my fence, and the backdrop is my neighbor’s roof.Time
Time of day was early to mid afternoon.Lighting
The backlighting was more by chance than planning, actually! The bird was already dark against the brighter roof, so I dropped the exposure and made a full silhouette.Equipment
I had recently got my Nikon D90, so I was using the kit lens, probably the 24-70Inspiration
I saw the profile of the bird as he perched, and the backdrop was simple and different.Editing
Post processing was lowered the exposure, noise reduction and sharpening. In my camera bag
I normally have my Nikon mirrorless camera with a Tokina wide angle lens, tripod (I love waterfalls), my drone and my GoPro.Feedback
Keep your eyes open and look for simplicity (at least, that’s what I love about this photo). Also, this bird obviously didn’t stay long, so be cognitive of the fact that some moments are short.
