Behind The Lens
Location
I took this photo in the home of a local antique dealer. The vibe seemed to go with the artistic view I had for this photograph.Time
The time of day was not pertinent to the outcome of the image, as this was taken indoors and the only source of lighting came from a strobe. No ambient light was introduced to the exposure to create a moody and darker image.Lighting
The lighting was a simple single strobe diffused through a 38" octobox. I used a single Elinchrome Quadra Action head, metered for the exposure. I reduced the ambient lighting with the settings on the camera and set my power accordingly to the look I was seeking.Equipment
This was taken using Canon 5D MIII and a 50mm lens - 1/200th f8 ISO 250Inspiration
I was building a portfolio and had arranged for a few local models to help produce content. This was a combination of the setting, and the wardrobe. The model just brought the perfect pose to tie it all in.Editing
Post-processing was done using LR and PS to taste. Primarily dodge and burn to enhance the vision I was seeking. In my camera bag
All canon bodies, occasionally a speed light. Depending on the session, my choice of lens' are 24-70mm, 70-200, and perhaps a 50mmFeedback
Find your vision, and detail out the gear that you will need to best capture it. No two photographers will be the same, you must first have a vision. The gear helps facilitate it, so proper planning and practice will help you develop the frame you seek.
