This was captured at Lake Wichita in Texas after a drought that had been lasting for the past 10 years. The posts are old pier pilings that in general are below water level.
The surface was so still you'll notice that the bottom half of the posts is a reflection.
There still remains beauty in devastation.......

I captured this image at Lake Wichita in Wichita Falls, Texas. This was towards one of the longest droughts in the history of the area. The old pier structures shown are generally 8-10 feet underwater!Time
This is probably one of my favorite images. I was out and about with a new camera and wanted to wander around and really did not anticipate taking the walk to capture this shot especially when temperatures were soaring around 110 degrees and not a breath of wind. It just goes to show sometimes you have to make an assertive effort to catch your most unexpected and amazing photos.Lighting
I wanted this image to capture the stillness of the scene and the sunset really provided me with great lighting.Equipment
I shot this using a kit lens 55-250mm on my new Canon 70D with a tripod.Inspiration
I was just out and about a new area and was experimenting with a new camera. I happened to be here at sunset and the wind was non-existent. I noticed that the old pier post had been exposed and the low water levels made for an interesting reflection. I had to walk out about 100 feet through mud and muck but, I know now just how much it was worth it.Editing
No post-processing at all was needed. Right from the camera. In my camera bag
My Canon 70D is my go-to camera even though it's not full frame andI normally carry my Sigma DC 2.8 17-50 mm and Canon 4.6 8mm-17 for a super wide field of view along with my kit lens 4.6 55-250mm zoom along with a tripod and trigger.Feedback
Patience and being in the right place at the right time. I find also that when I can get shots from ground level versus eye level you just get more of a sense of being. You don't need anything special in equipment other than just setting up your shot and getting the right exposure and aperture settings. Experimentation and taking lots and lots of shots. I don't think you need a full frame camera to get great shots. Looking through the viewfinder vs. the digital screen seems to work best for me in framing my photos. I think it takes away distractions and actually puts you in the scene as your eye sees it.
