Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken at the Pennsylvania Renaissance Fair during a performance of the Tartan Terrors "Clothing Optional" set.

Time

It was early evening and it was cold, which really shows the commitment of the guys to putting on a show as advertised. They were stripping down while most of the crowd was bundled up.

Lighting

Lighting in this type of venue can be tricky; it was bright outside but much darker under the pavilion.

Equipment

Taken with my trusted Sony A77 using the 18-250mm lens (a favored combination!). I was also in costume, so I was keeping kit to a minimum in order to disguise it in a handmade leather bag.

Inspiration

I love Ren Fair, Scottish music, beer, mead, and photography... all of those things were happening at that moment.

Editing

I used Lightroom to boost clarity and make the monochrome conversion as well as making some exposure adjustments.

In my camera bag

Extra batteries, memory cards, and sometimes a flash and Minolta 50mm or sometimes the Sigma 50-500mm (depending on what I'm going to shoot). I enjoy shooting events, and that usually means wanting to go with equipment that will give me a lot of options without being weighed down with too much gear.

Feedback

Try different angles, different focal points, and just keep shooting. Particularly in events like this and stage shows, things are constantly changing and it pays off to just keep steady on the shutter.
