The photo was taken at a local lake that I kayak.Time
I was out for an early morning paddle at my local lake and I just happened to be paddling by this swan feather. It struck me how it was sitting on the lily pads. I held my camera just above the water and took the shot. What strikes me about this photo is how I was able to capture the detail of the individual strands of the feather and combine it with the depth of field of the expanse of the lake and the far short line. The morning sun also gives this photo great appeal I feel as the shadow on the wide end of the feather contrasts nicely with the light hitting the narrow end adding to the natural curve of how the feather is sitting on the lily pads.Lighting
Morning light can enhance the shadows on an object.Equipment
I take most of my photos while out kayaking. This photo was taken with my Panasonic Limix DMC-TS4. I paddle with a monopod but for this photo it was a hand held shot.Inspiration
Being out in nature inspires me. When I'm on the water paddling my kayak I feel it gives me the chance to see nature in a different and unique way that most people do not get to experience. I gain a different perspective on the world and through my lens I try to capture that. When I saw this feather that randomly landed on the lily pads in this unique way I was drawn to it with my eye. Deciding to take it at the angle I did really captured what my experience was as I came upon such a random act of nature.Editing

I do a lot of my work while out in my kayak. I travel with two video camera's which also take stills- a Kodak Playsport and a GoPro Session. I have a Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS4 and for the last year I have been using a Fuji Finpix S1. I use a piece of equipment called the Personal Camera Buddy (PCB). It is a gooseneck monopod that can be worn on the back or as a standing monopod. This piece of equipment gives me the versatility for many camera angles-especially capturing the perspective o being underwater. It's a great piece of equipment I highly recommend.Feedback
Always be aware of what's around you. That goes for whether you are walking in the woods or walking down the hallway in your house. It's all about capturing those unique perspectives that we come across on a daily basis and sharing them with the world.
