Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken last summer at my favorite paddling spot-the Musconetcong River. One of those moments where the conditions were just right.

Time

This was an afternoon paddle trip. This particular section of river you have to paddle around a small island and then it goes into the straight shot you see in the picture. The calm waters of the river led to fantastic reflections.

Lighting

The afternoon lighting really lends to the reflections on the water. As you can see the boat is shaded by overhanging trees which lends to the reflections really popping on this section.

Equipment

I use a Fuji FinePix S1 and that's pretty much it as I often take my photos from my kayak.

Inspiration

It's my favorite spot to kayak and take photos. Living in such a heavily populated area like NJ folks forget the natural beauty in our own backyards. I feel an obligation to capture my experiences through photos and share them with everyone as a reminder that we have these valuable resources for all of us to enjoy and experience. My hope is by doing this we keep our wild places wild and open for all of us to enjoy and create our own experiences.

Editing

I just did some slight color enhancements.

In my camera bag

Because I do much of my photography while in my kayak exploring I generally just have my Fuji FInpix S1 camera. I might bring a monopod with me but that is it.

Feedback

Depending on the time of day you are out will determine how the light will play on the water. Afternoons bring some dramatic lighting which can result in some amazing results.
