Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo on a coastal walk in Killcare, a coastal village which is situated approximately 100km north of Sydney.

Time

My partner and I went for an evening coastal stroll and found these beautiful boardwalks which meandered around cliff edges.

Lighting

I wanted to capture the beautiful warm tones reflecting on the timber boardwalk. I did use the foliage on the right side of the photo to control the glare from the setting sun as it was facing me front on.

Equipment

Normally I use a Canon Eos 400D but for this picture I only had a point and shoot panasonic consumer level camera with me and this shot was taken hand held.

Inspiration

Coastal sunsets in Australia can be quite dramatic from a lighting perspective and I planned my walk to coincide with this time of day in the hope I would come across such a scene.

Editing

I made slight adjustments to curves in Photoshop to finalise this image.

In my camera bag

I normally have a Canon Eos 400D, prime lens and tripod.

Feedback

Autumn in Sydney is a beautiful time of year for dramatic sunsets so timing a trip or excursion for photographic purposes should provide photographers with dramatic natural lighting scenarios.
