Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was shot in St. Louis, MO. I was attending Shutter Fest 2015 at the time.

Time

This was shot indoors at about 11:45am

Lighting

The lighting for this shot was a single ring light that was being hand held.

Equipment

I was shooting with a Nikon D90, ISO 3200, Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 18-105mm lens, while hand holding the camera. The ring light used for lighting was being held by another shooter.

Inspiration

I had been attending a class at Shutter Fest on Fashion photography. The instructor had setup the background and arranged for the model to demonstrate how easy it could be to do a Fashion shoot with very inexpensive lighting and props.

Editing

For this image I did import the RAW file into Adobe Lightroom and converted the file to a DNG file. I then applied lens correction to the image. I adjusted the exposure slightly and I did some minor touch up to the image.

In my camera bag

I how carry a Nikon D750, D90. Along with a 50mm Nikkor f1.8 lens the Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 18-105mm lens as well as a Tamron 70.200mm lens. In addition to that I carry extra batteries for both cameras and extra memory cards.

Feedback

This type of shot can be done by a single shooter, but if you can get an assistant to help with holding your light(s) I would recommend it. This was a simple setup with a single light. The backdrop was actually hand made using paper running that are normally used in the aisle at a wedding. Makeup was done by an assistant but if you have experience with makeup or your model does this is not required. I would recommend that you have some idea of the look you are wanting to achieve going into the shoot. If not then you may find yourself spending more time setting up then you can afford to. I hope this is helpful and good luck.
