Location
This was taken along an open stretch of Hwy 103 not to far from where I live. As you can see there are a number of hills along the section on the Hwy 103 and I love how it just seems to disappear off in the distance.Time
This was shot around noon late in November and it was very over cast that day but I want to show the wide open spaces we have hear in the East Texas Pinewoods and to me this is a great example of what you can find all over this beautiful area of Texas.Lighting
It was mostly cloudy on the day I shot this so the lights was quite even not a lot of hard light even though it was right in the middle of the day. It was perfect for what I wanted to capture about this rural Hwy.Equipment
I shot this on my Nikon D90 with my 18 - 105mm kit lens set at 105mm, f16, 1/60sec. ISO 200. That is the lowest native ISO for the D90. I had held the camera while standing out in the middle of the Hwy 103 and I got down close to the ground so that I really capture the center double yellow stripes. My hope was to draw the viewers attention in to the photo and lead them down the road.Inspiration
I love photos of open roads and that lead you along and show you the beauty of the country side where ever it maybe and to me this was the perfect to show off some of the open roads of East Texas. My only regret is that there was not more color in the trees that line the road.Editing
I did very little post-processing to this image but I did add a graduated filter to the sky to help bring out the details in the clouds. I darkened the over all exposure just a little and I applied just a bit of dehaze. All post-processing was done in Adobe Lightroom. In my camera bag
These days I have my Nikon D90 as well as my Nikon D750. I have my Nikkor 50mm f1.8, a Tamron 70 - 200mm f2.8 and a Nikkor 24 - 120mm f4. Along with some extra batteries and SC memory cards, as well as a few other miscellaneous items.Feedback
It's always a good idea to have tripod with you. I had mine with me the day I took this photo just didn't need it for this shot. I never leave out for a photo shoot without checking my gear, are the batteries charged, is the camera working correctly, do I have extra memory cards in case of a failure. Even if I not exactly sure what I'm going to be shooting, like the day I took this shot I still had some idea of the type of shots I wanted to capture and the locations that I wanted to try and capture them at. As the old saying goes when you fail to plan, you plan to fail. I hope this inspires you to get out there and explore and share your view of this great world we live on.
