Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in the backyard of my childhood home in Prince Edward County, Ontario on June 4th, 2015.

Time

This photo was taken in the early evening as the sun was beginning to go down, the golden our. I was going for my regular evening walks, back the lane on the family farm.

Lighting

Evening light always creates such a magical effect and the way it made this Iris glow, immediately caught my eye.

Equipment

This shot was taken using a Canon EOS REBEL T3i, with a Canon Zoom lens EF-S 18-55mm.

Inspiration

I was taking my regular evening walk, I always take one of my cameras with me in case I see something special to take a picture of. On this evening as I walked through our backyard I noticed this lone Iris glistening in the evening sun. It just seemed to glow and I was struck by it's beauty, the colours were beautiful. I knelt down to get a good, close shot with the suns rays creating a nice flare behind the flower and the grass blurred in the background.

Editing

The only change to the original photo was cropping.

In my camera bag

I have my Canon EOS Rebel T3i body, Zoom lens EF 75-300mm and EFS 18-55mm. It is a basic digital camera that is easy to use and learn with. I also have a NIKON D70s that I use as often.

Feedback

Take walks in gardens, open fields, country roads often and at different times of the day. Keep your eyes and mind open to all the beauty that surrounds you, our planet is an incredibly beautiful place and there is always inspiration and opportunity for you to get that perfect, stunning shot. Photograph things that you love, that you see beauty in so that you can share them with others.
