Location
I took this photo at Skógafoss, Iceland, during our 2 week tour around the island.Time
This was taken about 11am. It was a travel day from Vík to Hella, We had about 5 mins before the coach load of tourists descended on the area!Lighting
It was a rather a dark morning which added to the moodiness of the overall look I was trying for.Equipment
This was shot on my Nikon D750 with a 24-120mm f4 lens.Inspiration
One of the things I wanted to do on this holiday was to go back to enjoying taking photos for me. Landscape photography was how I started in photography and I always find it relaxing. I looked at lots of photos of Iceland before we left and I wanted to take a photo of Iceland from different perspective. My boyfriend was my 'willing' model, happy to get wet walking back and forth a couple of times towards the waterfall until I was happy!Editing
I wanted to keep the shot simple and felt it was stronger as a black and white image. I increased the contrast and structure using Nik Software, as well as adjusting the black and white sliders. In my camera bag
When not photographing weddings, I tend to travel light, with my D750, and 24-120mm. Sometimes I like just taking my 50mm f1.8 out to get me focusing on my composition. For weddings, both cameras, D750 and D700 come out with my 24-120, 50mm, 105 and 70-200mm, that all get used at various times of the of the day. I love using the 70-200mm when I'm in ninja mode, capturing guests and also when taking couple portraits and I've kindly given them a moment to themselves! I love capturing the emotions and moments when they think no one is around.Feedback
Iceland is an amazing place and you never know what the landscape is going to be like from one place to the next. Plan ahead before you travel to see what conditions could be like in the location you want to shoot. Look at images taken by others of where you are thinking of shooting and look for different angles or ways to interpret the same scene.
