Behind The Lens
Location
This photo of my daughter was taken in our home in Pembrokeshire, West Wales, UK.Time
Our lounge window faces East, so this would have been taken fairly early on in the day, as the light would have been at its best then.Lighting
No artificial lighting - just the sun streaming in through the window.Equipment
I used my trusty Nikon D3200 on the automatic Portrait setting. At this time, I still hadn't mastered the manual settings and even now, 4 years on, I'm still learningInspiration
I have always loved the way light and shadows fall on things and people, and have always wanted to try to capture this. Cassie was sat in the perfect location so before she could move I grabbed the camera and started shooting.Editing
I use Picasa for editing. If I remember rightly all I did was change it to Black/White and used the Automatic 'one fix' tool and let the computer work out the best combination of shading/lighting.In my camera bag
In my camera bag right now (apart from an unwanted spider!) is my Nikon DX3200 along with its standard lens, plus camera cleaning kit. Also a macro lens kit, a telephoto lens and the instruction booklet to my camera (well thumbed).Feedback
Always keep the camera or a camera to hand as you never know when you will spot something that works. Use natural light to play with light and shadows. Even moody models (like my daughter, bless her) can throw up some great shots. Take lots of photos from different angles.
