Behind The Lens

Location

This crooked path is in the Arboretum in Guelph, a wonderful nature park/preserve. There are various gardens and woods of different styles from formal to pure woods.

Time

It was a late morning in May, spring was just coming into bloom. There were ducklings swimming and lots of new leaves but the flowers were still being shy.

Lighting

It was a sunny day but amongst the trees there was pockets of light and shadow, casting delightful patterns along the rickety boardwalk.

Equipment

I used a Sony Alpha 100, hand held.

Inspiration

I was enjoying a nice walk with my best friend. I had never been to this part of the Arboretum before and I was fascinated by the path. I loved that there seemed to be no end to this path and I certainly didn't trust it was safe. The boards were wonky to say the least. Every step was a leap of faith....we just kept joking that if we go down to hold the cameras up high. Wouldn't have been my first soaking with a camera in hand but each time I had a better camera at risk.

Editing

This photo has no post-processing.

In my camera bag

I now carry my new Nikon D55, 18-55 lens, 55-300 zoom lens, 10-20 lens, various filters, extra batteries and charger, extra memory card and lens cleaning supplies. i also carry a Canon Eos with extra battery and charger. Tripod comes along when headed someplace it will be likely needed.

Feedback

Expect the unexpected.....don't expect perfect conditions....work around the conditions. Take as many shots as possible, from different POV's if possible, different angles, heights, different settings, different lenses etc. Enjoy the day, enjoy the people you may be with and look around. It's not always the thing we hope to see that ends up being our best/favourite shot on a given day.
