Behind The Lens

Location

This photograph was taken at my home.

Time

This photograph was taken on on fine noon when our family dog ‘Kuttu’ was playing in the backyard.

Lighting

The sun was directly above the dog since it was shot during noon time. That brought out the details in his eyes.

Equipment

I used Nikon D90 with 55-200mm VR lens for this photograph. Flash wasn’t fired.

Inspiration

Kuttu was an energy bundle. I’ve never seen him standing still. That day, when my dad called his name, he stood like this for sometime. I really loved the reflection in his eyes.

Editing

The photo was taken in color and then post processed to black and white. I feel it’s better convert a color photograph to black and white during post processing rather than shooting in black and white. In this way, I can get a clear idea of the details and the photo may even be used as a color photo later (if i change my mind). Apart from this, basic edits were done.

In my camera bag

I have my Nikon D90, Nikkor 50mm 1.8 and 55-200mm VR in my bag. 50mm stays with the camera almost 90% of the time.

Feedback

While taking the photos of pets especially dogs, I prefer to use higher shutter speeds. Sometimes burst shots may be needed. These animals are usually fast moving and shows various interesting actions which can only be shot at higher speeds.
