The photo was taken on our back patio. When our oldest granddaughter Paisley peered out the small window of a cardboard house that my husband and I made. I just had to grab my camera!Time
This was taken May 25, 2015 at 11:59 AM. A beautiful day hanging with my three favorite little people, Paisley, Taegan, and Jace.Lighting
This was shot with all natural lighting before the open shade was gone by the harsh light of the sun. It's always trial and error with lighting for me. I know I just wanted Paisley's eyes to pop.To me the golden hour is the best time of day to shoot, the light is perfect.Equipment
This was shot with a Nikon D3200 using a Nikon 18-55mm. Aperture: f/5.6 ISO: 400 Even though this was a kit lens the time of day and open shade made this image great. I have since purchased a Nikon 35mm 1.8 Prime that I do not take off my camera. You do not need expensive equipment to get the perfect shot.Inspiration
I'm not very creative. As a hobbyist photographer, I have started seeing the world differently. So, when I saw Paisley's little fingers and her beautiful eyes through the windows on the cardboard box I knew this was a perfect photo opportunity. While I was running to get my camera I was hoping I had not missed the moment to capture this precious memory.Editing
Yes, the original was flat and did not pop. In PhotoShop I darkened the black of the box and set image to B&W. I also brightened and sharpened the image before cropping. In my camera bag
The first thing I always pack is my Nikon 35mm prime lens. It is perfect in any setting. Of course my Nikon D3200, and reflectors that I need to get that great catch light in my subject's eyes. Altura OCF, spare batteries, lens cleaner clothes.Feedback
Kids are always on the move as most of you know. I would recommend having your camera with you and in ready mode. Planning ahead is key to most photos. I do find that you miss the special candid shots like this one when you do too much planning. Our kids grow up so fast, do not miss the special moments. I have so many photos of my grandkids that they are sick of me having the camera in their face. Take as many photos as you like of the same shot to get the perfect one. You can always delete the others. My hope is that when they look back at all the photos that I've taken that all the memories they have forgotten will come flooding back.
